How can AI help improve my cyber security?

14th March 2025

67% of cyber security professionals use AI to create rules based on certain patterns and indicators.*

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is being used more frequently by businesses to automate tasks, generate content and improve efficiency in general.

One of the ways in which AI integration can be used is in your cyber security system. There are a few reasons why it can help to keep your data more secure:

Threat detection: AI can analyse vast amounts of data from various sources quickly, being able to detect potential threats in real-time. It can spot malicious behaviour such as fraud and phishing attempts.

Automated response: AI can automatically respond to threats, reducing the chance of data breaches or malware infection. Being able to isolate compromised emails or links before they have the chance to be activated gives your systems a better level of protection.

Vulnerability management: AI can help order potential security risks by severity, so Security Operations Centre (SOC) teams instantly know which problems require their attention first. The ability to create simple reports on these threats makes it easier to react to breaches.

Overall, AI can help in cyber security immensely, improving speed and efficiency in data analysis and response, being able to handle large amounts of data with ease and proactively updating to counteract new threats as they occur.

However, AI use in cyber security can be complex and costly. Additionally, AI can create false positives: it may quarantine an email that is perfectly legitimate, just because it hits certain criteria. This can happen when sending colleagues emails with links/files attached.

AI is best used in cyber security alongside a SOC team that knows how to get the best use out of it.
