Top 5: why you should care about cyber security?

The UK is one of the most effective* nations in the world when it comes to combating cyber crime – does that include you?

At Interfuture Security, we keep telling people how vital cyber security is to protect your business, but it can be a difficult point to make. It is one of those things that it is easy to dismiss and say “oh, it won’t happen to me.”

What people fail to think about is:

A. It is highly likely to happen and

B. When it does happen, the impact is devastating.

We thought it would be a good idea to go over the top 5 reasons that your cyber security matters. Give them a read – if the 5 C’s of cyber security are the ‘what,’ this is the ‘why.’

5. Compliance with regulations: a simple one to start, but nevertheless, very important. All businesses are subject to specific cyber security standards that you need to meet to avoid legal penalties (and if anyone hates penalties, it is the football-loving UK!).

4. Ensuring business continuity: cyber attacks are designed to cause disruption, leading to downtime and loss of productivity. Most businesses are unable to function without some form of computer, so to avoid this situation, a cyber security solution is a must.

3. Maintaining privacy: with more and more of our personal information being shared online, through social media, web registrations and online forms, it is important to maintain privacy where you can. Cyber security measures can help to protect your data from bad actors.

Retaining trust: a cyber breach may result in a customer’s details being obtained by a cyber-criminal – are they going to want to keep using your product or service if they feel you have failed to keep them safe? Cyber security gives not only you, but your customers peace of mind – and ultimately in a business, there is nothing more important than the customer.
